The short answer
Tattoo pain by body part is driven by three things: how much tissue sits between needle and bone, how nerve-dense the skin is, and how much the surface moves. Using those factors, the outer arm, thigh and calf sit at the comfortable end, and the sternum, ribs, armpit, spine, hands and feet sit at the hard end.

- Outer forearm: low to moderate. Sharper over the ulna edge.
- Elbow ditch and point: high. Joint movement and bone.
